Units | Community Engagement and
Mentorship Program (CEMP)
The Community Engagement and Mentorship Program (CEMP) unit aims to consolidate all activities that positively impact Scholars and their communities. Serving as a bridge between the Scholars Program at KNUST and the communities from which the Scholars come from, the unit’s primary goal is to build and sustain strong relationships. This is achieved through the implementation of impactful projects designed to create a positive difference in these communities. The unit achieves its objectives by employing three (3) main tools:
Community Engagement Projects
Every Scholar recruited into the Scholars Program at KNUST is tasked to initiate and implement a community engagement project within their respective communities. As part of their comprehensive training, Scholars are required to select and undertake a community initiative under the guidance of the Community Engagement and Mentorship Program (CEMP). These initiatives are designed not only to address the immediate needs of the community but also to create long-lasting and meaningful impacts that will resonate well beyond the Scholars’ time at the university. By empowering Scholars to lead these projects, the Program at KNUST fosters a sense of responsibility and encourages sustainable change within the communities they serve.
1-in-10 Mentorship Program
For the Program to reach more beneficiaries, the 1-in-10 Mentorship Program was initiated to mandate Scholars to mentor at least 10 young people from their communities during the Program’s second phase. By so doing, the gains of Scholars Program will directly reach an additional 15,000 people through the efforts of our Scholars.
Scholars Service Day Project
From a social policy planning perspective, it is said “Society is full of problems to be identified, but until one stands to trigger positive development to such struggles, they shall persist with their inimical impacts on the social structure or society of which we are not a part.” For this reason, Mastercard Foundation Scholars at KNUST have taken heed to give back to society. The Scholars’ community shows concern for solving some problems in society by embarking on community Give Back Projects as a collective unit annually. This is referred to as the Scholars International Day of Service Project. The following are some projects that Scholars have implemented:
